Welcome to the page of TUC's EURECA-PRO team.
Here you can find information about the European University on Responsible Consumption and Production - EURECA-PRO, open calls for mobility and research fellowship programs, announcements for lectures, seminars, study programs and short courses, current news, but most importantly all EURECA-PRO activities taking place locally at TUC or being organized by TUC, as well as audiovisual highlights from past EURECA-PRO events at TUC.
The European University on Responsible Consumption and Production (EURECA-PRO) is an alliance of 9 European Universities, committed to promoting research, training, innovation and entrepreneurship focusing on Responsible Consumption and Production, which is also one of the United Nations’ most strategic Sustainable Development Goals (SDG12) for our transition to a more ecological model of circular economy.
EURECA‑PRO is open to the entire university community:
- Students can spend a semester or pursue a full degree at a partner university, while immersing themselves in a multicultural environment and practising a foreign language.
- Academic staff and researchers can take part in conferences and meetings with international colleagues, help shape the alliance’s educational and research offer, and benefit from mobility opportunities—a potential first step toward international engagement.
- Administrative and technical staff can also benefit from mobility opportunities and the exchange of good practices within a European framework.
The Technical University of Crete (TUC), as a small, young, dynamic University and amongst the most prominent research institutions in Greece, has been a key member of the EURECA-PRO scientific network actively contributing to the design and delivery of innovative interdisciplinary research activities and curricula, offering mobility opportunities to students and faculty across partner universities as well as hosting milestone events for the growth and sustainability of the alliance, supporting its true European nature and fostering borderless, multinational exchanges.
TUC's goal is to continue to effectively expand its ongoing pursuit of excellence in education and research through this unique network of exchanges and to contribute important assets of knowledge and innovation both to local communities and on a global scale.
European Universities are intended to represent a new form of cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe with the long-term goal of strengthening the excellence of the European Higher Education Area.
EURECA-PRO has a two-fold societal and planetary mission. Through its novel approach, on the one hand, it holistically contributes to the highly topical issue of Sustainable Consumption and Production under the umbrella of Sustainable Development Goal 12, and on the other hand it effectively contributes to the development of the European Higher Education Area complimentarily to Sustainable Development Goal 4.
The EURECA-PRO Alliance promotes an interdisciplinary and transnational approach to developing environmentally low‑impact solutions, while rethinking economic and societal models through:
- international study programmes (double or triple degrees)
- collaborative research initiatives related to ecological and industrial transitions
- integrated mobility opportunities for students, doctoral candidates, teaching staff and administrative personnel
EURECA-PRO's long-term vision is to be the European educational core and leader in interdisciplinary research and innovation in sustainable consumption and production of resources, goods and materials by 2040. This will include technological, ecological, political, economic and societal aspects and their transfer into society and industry to achieve the targeted CO₂ reduction and associated sustainability practices of the EU Green Deal by 2050.

The term “flagship” is widely used in European strategy and within EURECA‑PRO refers to long‑term, large‑scale education and research communities that help define an ambitious vision for proactively producing solutions in five strategic challenge areas.
These academic communities aim to operate as “labs without walls”—driving scientific dynamics, enriching training programmes with new knowledge, and potentially creating joint programmes or degrees. Flagships are expected to continuously integrate new expertise, submit proposals for European research and education calls, and develop ties with socio‑economic partners to foster innovation, knowledge transfer, and science with and for society. They are also expected to support the design of new educational offers—modules, semesters or full programmes.
